Worship in Buddhism
Worship in Buddhism is different then other major religions because instead of praying to a God, buddhists devote their time to their beliefs because their goal is enlightenment. Siddartha Gauttama or the Buddha is usually not worshipped although some do. They are rather looked up upon as a guidance to the ultimate goal. There are still forms and ways to worship in Buddhism. There is a practice that is called puja, which honours holy beings. Respect is shown by bowing, making and offering, and chanting mantras. Mantras are symbolic phrases which Buddhists chant to help keep themin touch with their spiritual nature. Another way to worship is by meditating. Meditation leads to wisdom, which in turnleads to the end of suffering. It can also improve confidence as well as general mental and physical health.
